PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is closing Portage Road under I-94 in Kalamazoo this weekend to set the eastbound I-94 bridge beams.
The project was originally supposed to take place December 10 through December 13, but was postponed due to weather with severe high winds.
During the project, Portage Road will be closed between the west leg of Kilgore Road and the east leg of Kilgore Road, formerly known as Kilgore Service Road. The closures will occur from 5 a.m. Friday, December 17 through 5 a.m. Monday, December 20.
As with the originally scheduled time, the work will be weather dependent.
During the closures, Portage Road will be detoured on Kilgore Road, Lovers Lane, and Milham Avenue.
Check Mi Drive for closure details and alternate routes.
A second closure on Portage Road just south of Romence Road Parkway will take place on Saturday, December 18 to facilitate Pfizer’s installation of a temporary pedestrian bridge over Portage Road, north of the temporary traffic signal.
Motorists are advised to follow signed detour routes or seek an alternate route to avoid delays.
