LANSING, MI — The city of Lansing will not charge anyone for on-street parking downtown for the rest of the year.
Lansing Mayor Andy Schor says the free parking, which continues until Jan. 2, 2022, is meant to encourage people to shop and dine locally in downtown Lansing. Downtown Lansing businesses have been hurt since the pandemic with fewer state employees working in downtown office buildings.
Schor says the city will continue to monitor how long vehicles have been parked in downtown spaces, saying motorists will still be ticketed for parking over the maximum allowed time.
