KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – High winds Saturday not only knocked down trees and power lines, but flying debris also damaged a Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety vehicle.
The City of Kalamazoo along with many other communities within Southwest Michigan experienced strong winds that contributed to several calls for service.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded to 18 calls for service regarding power lines down or trees in the roadway between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
A Public Safety Sergeant was responding to an emergency call for help when a large tree was caught by his in-car camera falling into the roadway in the 1800 block of South Howard Street. KDPS officials say luckily the falling tree only caused minor damage to the police cruiser and no one was injured.
Public Safety encourages drivers to use caution when traveling for the next several hours as Kalamazoo will be under a wind advisory until 7 P.M. EST this evening.
