KALAMAZOO MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Area residents are reminded that, in addition to so-called “porch pirates” that roam looking for packages to steal, there are other situations to beware of during the holiday season.
Thieves who target vehicles are also out in abundance, as several incidents of break-ins have been reported.
Law enforcement officials urge residents to protect themselves from theft in several ways, among them:
- Making sure vehicles are locked and no valuables are left inside
- Not storing money in armrest or glove compartment
- Making sure that packages/gifts are not left in vehicles overnight or for extended periods of time
- If vehicles can’t be parked in a garage, make sure the area where they are located is well-lit and that car alarms, when available, are turned on
- Report any suspicious activity to law enforcement officials
