KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – God’s Kitchen of Michigan, a Kalamazoo based nonprofit hunger-relief charity, has launched a toy drive to give away the gifts at their annual Christmas dinners.
The organization will accept toys from noon to 6:00 pm Friday, December 10 at their Portage Chapel Hill Church meal site located at 7028 Oakland Drive. The group is trying to make up for toys they normally would receive from Toys for Tots. Earlier this week God’s Kitchen of Michigan was notified they wouldn’t be receiving them this year due to a lack of toys for distribution to nonprofit organizations.
“This is devastating news,” said Pastor William Stein, Chairman of God’s Kitchen of Michigan. “Our two annual dinners in Portage and Battle Creek will not be the same without toys.”
Toys for Tots has sponsored God’s Kitchen of Michigan’s annual Christmas events in Battle Creek and Kalamazoo for the past nine consecutive years. This year, God’s Kitchen is celebrating its 10-year anniversary.
“We hold no ill will towards Toys for Tots,” Pastor Stein said. “They have embraced us with love and compassion over the years to place smiles on the faces of a lot of children. We have faith that God will step in to influence the hearts and minds of individuals and families to donate a toy or two for our annual Christmas dinners.”
God’s Kitchen of Michigan will host a free Christmas dinner in Battle Creek on Tuesday, December 21, at their First United Methodist Church meal site, and Wednesday, December 22, at Portage Chapel Hill Church. Both events are from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m.
There are no income or identification requirements to participate. All are welcome. Due to COVID-19, all meals and toys will be distributed in a carryout format.
If you would like to contribute, please mail your tax-deductible check or money order by December 13 to God’s Kitchen of Michigan, P.O. Box 2632, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49003, or make a safe and secure donation online at www.godskitchenofmichigan.org or www.feedmysheepkzoo.org.
