KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – On Tuesday, the Better Business Bureau Serving Western Michigan (BBB) released tips regarding shipping and delivery scams around the holiday season.
That came after police in Kalamazoo were warning residents about package thefts late last month.
On Wednesday, Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller spoke with WKZO about these thieves, as well as prevention strategies.
Like the BBB, Fuller says home security systems and Ring doorbells can be a big help in tracking thieves.
“There was a case that was on TV where someone’s Ring Video did help in the apprehension of the suspect,” Fuller said. “Ultimately, someone called in with a Silent Observer tip, and that suspect was identified and has been arrested. That was great news, but what we’re finding is people are trying to be detectives amongst themselves and haven’t called law enforcement. We are encouraging you to call law enforcement when you have packages or mail stolen, and you have evidence of that, or even if you don’t have evidence. Evidence helps, but we still need you to call.”
