KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo County will soon have $7 million to spend on affordable housing and $54 million on COVI-19 recovery efforts, and they are bringing on some new tools and a heavy-hitting accounting firm to keep them on track.
Requests for applications will go out this morning to construction firms, housing agencies, local governments and a long list of social service agencies as the county seeks to help to build low-cost housing countywide and provide support services.
Housing Director Mary Balkema says they have installed Amplifund Software to receive and rank the applicants.
The county’s voter approved housing millage will generate $56 million over the next eight years.
The county will also use the software to distribute American Relief Plan funds and revenue from the Senior Millage.
Plante and Moran’s Guidehouse is being hired team to crunch the numbers and monitor compliance as they allocate the federal relief dollars.
Guidehouse is the same consultant hired by the State of Michigan and several other large counties in Michigan to guide them through the federal paperwork and compliance.
