KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) -Kalamazoo City Commissioners hoped to return to face to face meetings yet this month, but it’s not going to happen.
They had hoped to ditch the Zoom meetings in a week, when they plan a special budget discussion, but in light of the holidays and the omicron variant, they will push it off to January 1, 2022. That’s when the state law permitting zoom meetings for local boards expires.
Some local boards resumed public meetings months ago, after outfitting board rooms with plexiglas barriers and required masking, but their meetings usually draw fewer members of the public.
The Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners will also wait until January. They are scheduled to authorize the technical improvements to make that possible at their meeting tonight.
