KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A Cass County man facing murder charges in a case earlier this year has received a sentence as of Monday.
According to an update from MLive, 30-year-old Jordan Pierre Johnson will face 25-45 years in prison for the murder of 64-year-old Gregory Vines, a Kalamazoo Army veteran.
In addition, two weapons-related charges netted him a total of eight-and-a-half years. MLive reports the sentencing from those charges will run concurrently, but separately from the murder charge.
This comes after Johnson accepted a plea deal in October.
On February 25, Vines was killed outside an apartment complex in the 4500 block of West Main Street after being shot several times.
Johnson told police that he shot Vines because he was jealous that his child and the mother of his child moved in with Vines earlier that day. He was arrested in Vandalia the next day.
Johnson was sentenced by Judge Gary Giguere Jr., who called the case “senseless.”
