BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – A weekend fire at the former Southwest Junior High School building at 390 South Washington is under investigation by the Fire Marshal.
It was the fourth fire this year at the school. Previously, Battle Creek firefighters responded to two fires there in April and one in July.
The latest fire was reported Sunday morning at 9:39 a.m..
The Battle Creek Fire Department says the first units on the scene found smoke coming from the windows of a classroom at the back of the building.
The fire was quickly put out. No injuries were reported.
The building has been vacant for 15 years after Battle Creek Schools closed it. Plans in 2016 to sell the building to a developer for 110 apartments fell through.
