KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A student at Maple Street Magnet School for the Arts is reportedly facing disciplinary action after Kalamazoo Public School officials said he was responsible for bullets found outside the middle school Tuesday.
WWMT-TV reports that there was no gun found and no shots were fired, but a call went out to parents just hours after the deadly shooting at Oxford High School in Oakland County.
In a release, school district officials said, “KPS takes all threats seriously. We immediately report threats to law enforcement for their investigation.”
Mattawan Consolidated School District closed all schools for two days due to an alleged threat the week of Thanksgiving. A week earlier, Kalamazoo Public Schools did not cancel classes at Loy Norrix High School while police investigated two separate threats.
In wake of the tragedy at Oxford High School, Michigan State Police Lt. Col. Chris Kelenske, the Michigan School Safety Commission chair. sent a release Wednesday with a statement.
Kelenske said planning documents and informational resources were emailed to school administrators “to assist them as they continue to evaluate potential threats and put into place preventative measures to mitigate threats and maintain safe learning environments in our schools.”
