OTSEGO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Wednesday, the City of Otsego announced a new Social District and recreational area that will open this Saturday afternoon.
The Social District is known as the Downtown Otsego Gathering Spot (DOGS), which will be located on the northern half of the 100 block of East Allegan Street (M-89).
The name DOGS is a play on words with the local Otsego Public Schools Bulldogs, along with the mascot of Maude’s, a local tap house adjacent to DOGS that holds a Social District permit to sell alcoholic beverages.
The DOGS will open up on Saturday, December 4 during the annual Hometown Christmas event.
Officials say the DOGS will be utilized by spectators to watch the Christmas night-parade and tree lighting while enjoying an alcoholic beverage.
After the event, the DOGS will remain open daily from noon to 10 p.m.
In a statement, city officials say the intent with the DOGS is to create a location that will draw patrons to downtown.
It is also meant to offer local drinking and eating establishments some relief with their labor shortages by setting up an outdoor dining option.
