PARK TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – One man is dead after a fatal crash that occurred on US-131 near Three Rivers in Park Township Monday.
Just after 2:00 p.m., deputies with the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office were called to a crash involving a single vehicle on southbound 131.
The crash happened between Heimbach Road and Moorepark Road in Park Township.
Police say a Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling south when it lost control, left the roadway to the right, rolled over and struck several trees.
The driver and sole occupant was identified as a 51-year-old male, who suffered fatal injuries in the process.
Witnesses said the vehicle had been traveling at a high rate of speed and was attempting to pass or avoid a combine when control was lost.
An autopsy is currently underway, but police do not believe alcohol was a factor. However, police noted that the driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time.
The identity is being withheld pending notification of family members.
