KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) is engaged with a standoff involving an armed suspect, and the public is being asked to avoid the area for safety concerns.
News outlets confirmed Monday that the standoff began around 10:45 a.m. at a residence in the 1500 block of Washington Avenue.
The suspect in the standoff has been identified as the suspect in a shooting earlier this month, which happened when a dispute turned violent. An arrest warrant was developed in that case.
Police say the suspect fired shots at officers, but no injuries were reported.
At this time, the following roads have been shut down:
- Washington Avenue is shut down completely
- Stockbridge is shut down at Division
- Lake Street is shut down north of Mills
- Fulford shut down east of Egleston
- Division is shut down west of Stockbridge
