KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Kalamazoo County Board has finally approved their 2022 budget, weeks later than originally planned, to the relief of many. This year’s deliberations got hung up on what should be funded by local tax money and what would be covered by Federal COVID-19 money.
They came within a vote of having it delayed another two weeks after a commissioner proposed another amendment. It was rejected. The majority insisted that after a month of delays, that they had to act now.
Interim Administrator Lisa Henthorn says she has heard from a number of worried Kalamazoo County workers.
“(They did it) through their supervisors, through their department heads to display and convey their deep concern for the timing that it took for us to get it passed this year.”
Board Members will now immediately turn their attention to allocating some of the money from the American Rescue Plan, to finish up some of the funding priorities that are still unmet.
