KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – There will be several new faces on the Kalamazoo City Commission when they are sworn in Monday.
Last night, voters reelected incumbent Mayor David Anderson over challenger Benjamin Stanley, marking Anderson’s second term.
“I feel fabulous, a little exhausted, but also energized because I’m looking forward to a couple of big years,” Anderson said last night.

The new commissioners are Stephanie Hoffman, Quianna Decker, and Esteven Juarez.
In addition, Don Cooney ran as a Commissioner and took the top amount of votes among those on the ballot, which means he will now serve as Vice Mayor.
He returns to the city board after a two year hiatus.
“I thank the people of Kalamazoo for giving me another chance, and the main responsibility we have is to take care of all our citizens,” Cooney said.
Mayor Anderson says the board will plunge right into a busy schedule next month when work begins on the 2022 city budget.
“You’ll get our budget on December 1, we have a new crew on this Commission, and so I’m going to be very intentional about us working together to really fulfill those dreams that we all share for Kalamazoo,” Anderson said.
Anderson added that he is very happy with the new group that voters have selected for the next Kalamazoo City Commission.
An effort is now being made to hold the commission’s swearing-in ceremony in-person on Monday after a year and a half spent in Zoom meetings.
Subsequent meetings through December will likely still be held online.
