KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Halloween takes place this weekend and the following holiday season is coming up fast, meaning several more packages are about to be delivered.
As a result, UPS is now looking to hire up to 100,000 seasonal workers in various positions.
Mark Shannon is the Talent Acquisition Director for UPS, and he spoke with us Wednesday morning.
“It’s an exciting time of year,” Shannon said. “More than 500 of those 100,000 jobs are in the Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids area, so we’re excited about it, and we have lots of great opportunities for package handlers, package car drivers, driver helpers and more.”
Through a survey, Shannon says the company has a better idea of what workers are looking for in a seasonal job.
“In the short-term, seasonal workers want to prepare for holiday expenses, catch up on household expenses, create an emergency savings, but the overarching thing we found is that people are looking for a seasonal position that can become permanent.”
Shannon says that’s possible with UPS.
“When we look over the last three years, nearly a third of our seasonal people returned in a permanent job after peak season,” Shannon said. “Right now, over 138,000 of our current people in the UPS workforce started in a seasonal or part-time role, and they turned it into a career, including some of our senior executives.”
To apply for seasonal work, Shannon says applicants can go to www.jobs-ups.com to start the process.
