KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office has announced the passing of one of its deputies.
In a news release, the Sheriff’s Office identified the deceased as Deputy Eric West, who passed away Monday, October 25.
The Department provided the following statement regarding his passing –
It is with deep sadness that we inform you Deputy Eric West of the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office unexpectedly passed away yesterday afternoon (10/25/2021).
Deputy Eric West started with the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office on July 10, 2017. He proudly served the Sheriff’s Office in the Operations Division, working several years on the Midnight shift and most recently was assigned to the Day shift.
Deputy West utilized his skills and experience in the role of a Field Training Officer, showing new officers how to apply their police academy knowledge to real life, on-the-job experiences.
Deputy West previously served the community as the Chief of Police in Vicksburg Michigan, and also earlier in his career worked as an officer in Villages of Schoolcraft and Decatur, Michigan.
Eric is survived by his wife and two daughters. Please keep Eric and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
Funeral planning is underway and additional information will be shared as it becomes available.
Information about his cause of death has not been released at this time.
The passing of Deputy Eric West comes about two months after the passing of Deputy Ryan Proxmire, who was killed in the line of duty last August.
