BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Battle Creek-based Kellogg Company is hoping to get striking workers back to the bargaining table. Over 1,400 employees across the company have been on strike for three weeks now.
Kellogg says it sent a message on Monday to the union that represents those workers in an effort to resume contract talks. The company says it would consider discussing proposals that would address its current two-tiered system that gives fewer benefits and less pay to newer workers, which has been a top issue for the union. But Kellogg did not elaborate on that or much else.
The strike covers four plants, including the one in Battle Creek. The company has resumed production of cereal at those plants with outside workers and salaried employees. The strike began on October 5th.
