BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office says information on a bullying and assault incident in a bathroom at Pennfield High School has been forwarded to the Calhoun County Prosecutor’s Office for possible criminal charges.
Authorities say after school concluded Thursday a video was uploaded to social media showing the incident in the bathroom. The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office was notified that evening and began an investigation.
Apparently between class periods, a 14-year-old boy was harassed by multiple other 9th graders, including a 16-year-old boy who assaulted the victim. Police say there were five to seven students in the restroom. None of the students who witnessed the event came to the victim’s aid or alerted staff or the School Resource Officer.
School officials were notified and began their administrative investigation before school began Friday. The Sheriff’s Office says the investigation has concluded and Pennfield Schools have levied their sanctions.
Any criminal charges will now be up to the Calhoun County Prosecutor’s Office.
