KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – With Halloween just around the corner, the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office is reminding residents of safety tips.
Sheriff Richard Fuller spoke with us on Wednesday morning.
“It does look like Halloween is back on this year for many communities, check with your local calendars or communities. But the CDC wanted everyone to understand that Trick-or-Treating is safe this year in their minds, as long as we’re taking precautions.”
Fuller says those precautions should be taken with COVID-19 considered, but basic costume safety should also be kept in mind.
“A mask should not cover everything, you want to make sure the eyeholes are large enough for children, and it’s not a costume [they’ll lose eyesight with],” Fuller said.
Fuller adds that while some types of candy are better than others when it comes to inspecting safety, actual cases of tampering are almost non-existent.
“It is very rare to ever find anything wrong with candy being handed out at the door,” Fuller said. “So rare that it’s hardly ever reported.”
