BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Officials in Battle Creek are looking to install smart cameras around the city, to help aid the police department which is in the midst of a labor shortage. Five of them would cost around $250,000. An original resolution was postponed in October.
The smart cameras, which include night visions, would give remote access to the police department in key areas of the city where there have been known problems with crime and break-ins. Some Battle Creek citizens have privacy concerns on the issue, but Police Chief Jim Blocker says they would only be used in public areas like downtown businesses and parking garages.
A vote on the resolution is expected at the city’s Tuesday night meeting.
