BUFFALO, NY (WKZO AM/FM) — Western Michigan fifth-year senior forward Bailey Korhorn became the women’s soccer all-time leading goal scorer after netting her 26th career goal in a thrilling 4-3 loss at Buffalo on Thursday night.
The record-breaking goal came in the 65th minute to put the Broncos (3-11-0, 1-6-0 MAC) up 3-2. Hannah Redoute played the ball to Korhorn just outside the box and she struck it in stride, kicking it into the bottom-right corner of the net for her sixth goal of the season. The goal surpassed Stephanie Skowneski (2008-11), who she was tied with for the record.
Buffalo responded just 48 seconds later to tie it up at 3-3 when Gianna Yurchak scored on a penalty kick.
The teams battled back and forth from there but the Bulls found the game-winner in the 83rd minute on a goal by Alya Ruken.
UB outshot WMU 14-11 overall and 9-6 on goal.
Buffalo struck first, taking the lead in the 10th minute on a goal by Katherine Camper.
WMU tied it up at 1-1 in the 32nd minute when Korhorn found Jenna Blackburn alone at the top of the box and she kicked it into the top-right corner of the net. Reagan Wisser also picked up an assist o nthe goal.
Just after the start of the second half the Broncos took a 2-1 lead on a goal by Cas Flanagan. Morgan Otteson was posted up in the box and found Flanagan to her right and she fired it into the right side of the net for her third goal of the season in the 50th minute.
Ruken scored her first goal of the night in the 59th minute to tie it up at 2-2.
The Broncos return home to host Akron on Sunday at 2 p.m.
