KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) –Recent TikTok Challenges for mischief using the social media app, are encouraging kids to commit vandalism in their schools. And it has become a major problem in Kalamazoo.
KPS Superintendent Rita Raichoudhuri is urging parents to warn their children that they face serious consequences if they are caught vandalizing school property.
“We have had over 50 soap dispensers destroyed, baby changing stations destroyed that have had to be replaced, and toilets clogged causing us to shut down bathrooms.”
She says it’s costing them a lot of money to make repairs, something they are finding difficult to do because of manpower and supply chain shortages. Some bathrooms are being locked up until they can be repaired, which can be a big inconvenience for other students.
“This is a call to our families to be partners with us in educating your child on what is considered socially appropriate behavior.”
School Board Members urged staff and parents to do everything they can to curb the social media craze because there’s even one challenge that involves physically and sexually assaulting teachers.
