LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Michigan State Police are reporting that they made nearly 10,400 traffic stops during their recent Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign. The operation took place for three from August 16 leading up to Labor Day, September 6.
Among the stops, over 400 led to arrests for impaired driving or operating while intoxicated or under the influence of drugs.
In 2020, there were over 9,000 alcohol-related traffic crashes including over 320 fatalities in the state of Michigan.
Here are the statistics from the 2021 effort:
- Impaired driving: 200 arrests
- Operating while intoxicated: 166 arrests
- Operating under the influence of drugs: 34 arrests
- Felonies: 167 arrests
- Misdemeanors: 807 arrests
- Speeding citations: 2,417
- Seatbelt citations: 370
- Moving violations: 1,122
- Child restraint violations (age 7 and under): 35
