Red Wings finish preseason with 4-4 record, open regular season Thursday

BUFFALO, NY (WKZO AM/FM) – The Detroit Red Wings lost their final preseason game 3-1 against the Buffalo Sabres at KeyBank Center Saturday.

Sam Gagner scored Detroit’s only goal, and Alex Nedeljkovic saved 35 of the 37 shots he faced.

After the game, Detroit assigned goaltender Calvin Pickard to the AHL, which cut the Red Wings roster down to 31 players.

Detroit finished the preseason with a 4-and-4 record and will open the regular season at home against the Tampa Bay Lightning Thursday.
