HARTFORD TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A young child was taken into protective custody after two drugs and weapons arrests in Van Buren County earlier this week. It happened around 5:00 p.m. Tuesday during a traffic stop on County Road 687 in Hartford Township.
A vehicle towing a second vehicle was stopped for multiple violations. Detectives located a 41-year-old woman from Dowagiac who was believed to be dealing drugs in the area. During a search of her car, investigators found meth, a handgun, and counterfeit money. A 6-year-old child was also in the car, apparently holding a pillowcase that had needles and drug paraphernalia inside it. A 26-year-old man was in the car being towed. During a search of that vehicle, Sheriff’s deputies found more meth.
Child Protective Services have placed the child in protective custody. The nature of the relationship of the child to the two suspects has not been reported. The woman and man were both arrested on several charges.
