YPSILANTI, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Western Michigan’s Alissa Fish won the 2021 Shirley Spork Invitational hosted by Eastern Michigan at the Eagle Crest Golf Club after shooting a program record 54-hole low of 210.
Fish shot a final round of 70 to finish -6 and finish a commanding 11 strokes ahead of Bowling Green’s Kayla Davis. The junior led the tournament from start to finish, becoming the first Bronco to be an individual medalist since Claire Hernandez won the Rio Verde Invitational back in 2019. She’s also now the second WMU golfer to win the Shirley Spork Invitational, joining alum Julia Champion, who was the individual medalist in 2017.
Fish led the tournament in par three scoring (-3), par four scoring (-1), and tied for the lead in par five scoring at (-2). She had a tournament-best 13 birdies and finished with 35 pars.
Western Michigan took fifth overall with a three-round total of 918 (+54) after shooting a 304 in the final round, its lowest of the tournament.
Fiona Khaing was WMU’s second finisher, shooting a 231 (+15) after wrapping up the tournament with a 77. Brooke Gibbons finished with a 235 (+19), while Imogen Courtney finished with a 242 (+26). Haley Barclay wrapped up the Broncos’ top five at 257 (+41). Freshman Madeline Blum competed as an individual and finished with a 245 (+29).
It’s a quick turnaround for Western Michigan, as the team heads to Bradley University on Saturday.
