DETROIT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Detroit Tigers general manager Al Avila and manager A.J. Hinch are talking about the next moves for the team.
Detroit ended 2021 at 77-and-85, its best record in the last five years.
Hinch said the goal is to get above .500, then get as far over that mark as needed to get to the playoffs. Avila said while they’re ready to get back into the free-agent market this offseason, it will be a measured process. The Tigers are looking to add a shortstop and a veteran starting pitcher.
The Tigers will pick twelfth overall in the 2022 MLB Draft. The Orioles will get the number-one overall pick with the Diamondbacks, Rangers, Pirates and Nationals rounding out the top five.
This year’s draft was part of All-Star festivities in July, but the date for the 2022 event has not yet been announced.
