PORTAGE MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Steve Hawkins was a mainstay on the WMU BB sideline for many years, and he has spent the last 18 months working on his first book, producing his podcast, and consulting- but now he can add another title to his busy list.
Hawkins was named the head men’s basketball coach at Portage Northern High School on Friday.
Hawkins won eight MAC titles and made two NCAA tournament appearances with the Broncos.
He is the second former Bronco head coach to go on to coach a high school team.
Former WMU football coach Elliott Uzelac went on to coach at Benton Harbor and St Joseph high schools, and currently coaches at Berrien Springs.
