BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – UPDATE – After charges of murder were dropped against a Battle Creek man due to failure in locating a witness, the Calhoun County Prosecutor’s Office has reinstated those same charges.
Earlier on Wednesday, WKZO reported that murder charges against 39-year-old Ernest McGill were dropped during a Calhoun County District Court preliminary examination on Tuesday.
McGill was charged in connection with the June shooting death of 24-year-old Eniyah Hollins as she was attending a party on Hanover Street. Police believed Hollins was not the intended target in that shooting.
It had initially been reported that the charges were dismissed due to the failure in locating a key witness. However, McGill could have still faced those charges at a later time, and was still serving time for an unrelated drug charge.
However, later on Wednesday, WWMT reported that McGill will now face the murder charges after all.
According to that report, the key witness that was previously not located has now been found, leading the court to reinstate the charges.
The shooting is also believed to be connected to a shooting that took place earlier that night, which happened at #1 Legends Bar and Grill.
