MARCELLUS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A young child is still in the hospital after a dirt bike he was riding on with an adult crashed in Cass County. Deputies responded to a private property in the 500 block of Snyder St. in Marcellus around 2:30 Sunday afternoon.
A 3-year-old child had been taken to a Three Rivers hospital and was later airlifted to a hospital in Kalamazoo. The driver said a throttle cable had broken causing a loss of control of the bike. It was unable to slow or stop while headed for a tree. The man decided to lay the bike down rather than hit the tree and as he did, he tried to absorb the impact as much as he could to protect the child.
There’s no update on the child’s condition and the accident remains under investigation.
