KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — School has begun in Kalamazoo County, and along with it, a mask mandate that could be in place until early next year. The countywide mandate for schools is set to remain in effect until six weeks after a COVID-19 vaccine is approved for kids 5-years-old and older.
Scott Gottleib, who sits on the Pfizer Board says their current timetable is to finalize data in September and seek approval for the vaccine in October.
“The agency will be in a position to make an authorization, I believe, at some point later in the fall, possibly winter. They will probably base their decision on circumstances around the country.”
Gottleib, a former Administrator of the FDA, told CBS’s Face the Nation that it will take some time for the Agency to process the application. He says FDA requests for more data could delay approval.
Kalamazoo Public Schools is set to reevaluate their mask mandate at the end of the first Trimester.
