KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A Kalamazoo area lawmaker will host a panel discussion tonight to address water issues and flooding, which she says is due to the number of inland lakes in the community.
61st District State Representative Christine Morse says she hopes the town hall will answer questions and provide information about flood management efforts and green infrastructure in Kalamazoo County.
Morse says she and the panel of experts will discuss ongoing solutions and future plans to deal with the problem. They will also discuss drinking water, infrastructure, sewers, and a number of other water-related topics.
The town hall begins at 6:30 p.m. tonight at the Portage Senior Center, 320 Library Lane in Portage.
Besides Morse, other speakers include James Baker with the City of Kalamazoo, Tom Zimnicki with the Michigan Environmental Council, Dan Beauchamp, senior environmental engineer with the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy’s (EGLE) Water Resource Division (WRD), Phil Argiroff, assistant division director in EGLE’s WRD, Stacy Hissong, attorney for the Michigan Association of County Drain Commissioners, and Kesiree Thiamkeelaku, research analyst with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources’ Fisheries Division.
