KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A bicyclist was seriously injured Sunday afternoon, after being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of West Kalamazoo Avenue and North Park Street in Kalamazoo.
The incident happened around 1:50 p.m. Sunday. Kalamazoo Public Safety officers rendered aid to the 28-year-old male until EMS arrived and transported the victim to a local hospital.
Police say the driver of the vehicle remained on scene and was questioned by officers. Several witnesses also stayed on scene and provided statements. Apparently the victim was riding his bicycle in the crosswalk at the intersection when he was hit by the vehicle traveling westbound on West Kalamazoo Avenue.
The incident is still under investigation.
West Kalamazoo Avenue between Park Street and Cooley Street was shut down for approximately 1.5 hours while officers investigated.
