EMMETT TOWNSHIP, MI (WNWN) – Troopers from the Michigan State Police post in Marshall are investigating a Sunday crash on I-94 near Beadle Lake Road when a driver tried to use an emergency vehicle median crossover.
The vehicle was struck at full speed by another vehicle in the normal lane of travel.
The driver of the vehicle attempting to use the cross over was critically injured.
State Police say this crash is an unfortunate reminder of the dangers of the unauthorized use of emergency median crossing points, and why such use is prohibited state law.
Numerous agencies assisted State Police including Emmett Township Public Safety, LifeCare Ambulance, Marshall Area Ambulance, West Michigan AirCare and the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department.
Members of the Ingham County Sheriff’s Department Honor Guard who were traveling home from the funeral of fallen Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Sergeant Ryan Proxmire were some of the first on scene and stopped to provide aid until local resources arrived.
