WAYLAND, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A suspect has been charged in Allegan County related to tampering with gas and electric meters last week at a grocery store and strip mall, creating a potentially dangerous situation.
Early Thursday morning, August 12 during severe storms, Wayland Police were called to the Harding’s Market and Family Farm and Home Strip Mall on a suspicious incident involving gas and electrical meters and opened service panels. It was determined to be caused by an individual rather than the storms. Wires were exposed and gas was being discharged in close proximity to the wiring.
After the scene was contained, Michigan State Police began an investigation. A person of interest was identified and arrested. 34-year-old Shayne Nagel of Grand Junction is charged with several counts related to malicious destruction of property, assaulting and resisting an officer, and being a habitual offender.
