KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Consulting group that investigated how Kalamazoo handled last year’s protests plans an addendum to their report to refute claims that Public Safety withheld information.
Statements made by the OIR Group led some to believe that Public Safety officials refused to disclose everything that was requested.
City Manager Jim Ritsema says that while it took longer than expected to find some documents, the consultant got everything they asked for that existed.
“In the near future, the OIR group will be issuing a supplement to the report clarifying this exchange of information between KDPS and the OIR Group,” Ritsema said.
He says the firm plans to put that in writing.
The group had asked for bodycam video of the earlier protests, but little existed because the City’s old riot gear was not designed to hold cameras.
Ritsema plans to present an outline of what they have already done to comply with OIR’s recommendations, and a timeline for how they will address the others at their first Commission meeting in September.
