BAINBRIDGE TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A three-vehicle crash in Berrien County Tuesday afternoon, in which one vehicle caught fire, left an Indiana woman dead and others injured.
Michigan State Police Troopers responded to M-140 Hwy and North Branch Rd. in Bainbridge Township just before 4:00. Investigations showed a vehicle was waiting to make a left turn when a Jeep approached from behind and struck the vehicle. The impact pushed that vehicle into the path of another one, causing another collision and the vehicle to catch fire.
The driver, a 25-year-old man from Niles, managed to escape with minor injuries. A Paw Paw man driving the Jeep was taken to a hospital with undisclosed injuries. 43-year-old Carrie Kobb of Mishawaka, who was in the third vehicle, suffered critical injuries and is being treated at a hospital in Indiana. Her mother, 68-year-old Linda Kobb, who was a passenger in the vehicle died at the scene.
Investigators say alcohol or drug use may have been a factor in the crash, but no charges have been filed at this time.
