DORR, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Severe thunderstorms that moved through Michigan left nearly 200,000 without power and widespread damage across the state. A line of storms that pretty much covered all of Lake Michigan from top to bottom rolled through quickly late Tuesday and early Wednesday.
Gusty winds were the biggest problem from the storms, including a nearly 70 mph wind gust reported in Dorr in Allegan County. Most areas in West Michigan experienced winds between 30 and 60 mph.
A fire was reported in West Olive, near Grand Haven, due to downed power lines. In Kalamazoo, an area of S. Westnedge at Inkster Ave had to be closed due to a large tree and power lines blocking the road.
Consumers Energy expects restoration of electricity to take several hours if not a day or two to get everyone back online. More strong to severe storms are expected tonight.
