BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The trial of a man accused of shooting a Battle Creek Police officer in 2019 is set to begin Tuesday. 32-year-old Andre Yarbrough faces several charges and could spend the rest of his life in prison if convicted on all of them.
Officer Jeff Johnson was shot twice while trying to arrest Yarbrough on warrants at a house on Cherry Street in November of 2019. Body armor helped protect the officer from more serious injuries. Yarbrough managed to escape from the home that night but was arrested early the next morning when a police K-9 tracked and eventually found him hiding in a closet at an apartment a few miles away.
