PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Tuesday, the City of Portage, along with the Portage Department of Public Safety, announced the formation of the Portage Public Safety Foundation.
Officials say the Foundation is an independent non-profit organization comprised of local citizens with the mission of assisting the Portage
Department of Public Safety.
They will do so by “providing unfunded essential resources and support necessary to foster positive community relations and superior public safety service,” according to the city.
City officials provided further details about the Foundation, which read as follows:
“Its core purpose is to close the gap when funding falls short, thereby allowing for investment in specialized equipment, advanced training, new technology, officer and firefighter safety, as well as wellness programs which are not covered in the department’s annual budget.
The creation of the Foundation affords the opportunity for individuals, businesses, civic organizations and other community organizations to make tax deductible contributions directly to the department.”
Residents are invited to participate in the organization. Currently, there are two vacancies within the Foundation Board of Directors.
The purchase of Portage Public Safety branded merchandise will also go to benefit the Foundation. They can be purchased online or at the PPS headquarters, located at 7810 Shaver Road.
For more information about the Foundation, how to donate or how to join, residents can visit www.portagepsfoundation.org or contact the Portage Department of Public Safety at 269-329-4560.
