PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Portage Department of Public Safety has created a safe exchange zone to help provide residents a secure location to conduct private sales, such as ones the originate online.
It’s aimed to curb risks for meeting with buyers who you aren’t familiar with and to avoid thefts, fraud, or robberies. The area can also be used as a safe and neutral site for child custody exchanges as well.
The Safe Exchange Zone is a well-marked, well-lit area located directly in front of the main entrance to the Department of Public Safety Headquarters on Shaver Road. The area is under 24-hour video surveillance and can accommodate two vehicles parked side-by-side.
