KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Following an announcement last week by the CDC, citizens living in areas of “substantial” or “high” transmission rates of COVID-19 have been advised to continue wearing masks indoors when in public.
Kalamazoo County is now classified at the “substantial” community transmission level.
As a result of this development, Kalamazoo County Government officials announced Wednesday that it will move back from Phase 5 to Phase 4 of the organization’s COVID Response Plan.
This includes implementing the following safety measures across all County buildings for Kalamazoo County staff and visitors effective Monday, August 9th, 2021:
- Face coverings are required for unvaccinated and vaccinated individuals
- Buildings will be open with a reduced schedule of 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
- Appointments are recommended.
- Individuals must socially distance themselves

This news comes after a similar announcement by Western Michigan University Wednesday, which requires that everyone wear a mask when indoors.
It also comes after the City of Kalamazoo voted earlier this week to continue utilizing virtual meetings through December 31, 2021.
