PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The son of a recently-murdered dentist in Portage was arraigned in court Monday morning.
Previously, 56-year-old Scott Sterffy had been the focus of a national manhunt. He was arrested in Kalamazoo Saturday.
Sterffy is accused of murdering his father, 82-year-old Dr. Thomas Aye. It was later confirmed that Sterffy had been seen in Chicago and Seattle, prompting the multistate manhunt.
At a court appearance Monday morning, Sterffy was arraigned on charges of open murder and the mutilation of a dead body, which he denied.
Bond for Sterffy was not granted, and he remains in custody at this time.
His next court date will take place on Thursday, August 12.
