BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – A body of a man that was recovered from the Kalamazoo River in Battle Creek last Sunday has been identified.
According to a statement from the City of Battle Creek, Police have identified the man as 63-year-old Luis Romero-Jimenez. He was apparently homeless and living in the Battle Creek area.
He was identified through fingerprints.
The cause of Romero-Jimenez’s death is still under investigation.
Officials with the Michigan DNR and the Calhoun County Sheriff’s office made the discovery of the body on the west side of the river near Riverside Drive and Burnham Street. They were patrolling that area after an unrelated river rescue. The body was in an area covered by fallen tree branches.
Investigators believe it had been in the water for quite some time.
