PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – UPDATE: The Portage Police Department is treating the death of an elderly resident as a homicide, according to an update released Tuesday.
Previously, police had reported the death of an 82-year-old resident in the 5000 block of Glencove Court on Sunday.
Police said evidence at the scene indicated signs of violence, and that the death was suspicious.
On Tuesday, police reported that an autopsy has classified the death as a homicide. The victim was identified as 82-year-old Dr. Thomas Aye, who was a dentist from the area.
Aye had served the Kalamazoo area for about thirty years, according to his biography on the Building Functional Esthetics website.
No other information was made available, and the case remains under investigation.

Police in Portage have announced that they are investigating the death of an elderly resident, the circumstances of which are considered suspicious.
Around 7 p.m. Sunday, Portage Department of Public Safety Police and Fire Divisions responded to a residence in the 5000 block of Glencove Court for an unresponsive male.
Once on scene, officers located the 82-year old male resident deceased inside.
Police say evidence found at the scene was suspicious in nature and indicated signs of violence.
As this investigation is in the early stages, there is no further information at this time.
The cause and manner of death will be determined during the course of an autopsy scheduled to take place within the next 24 hours.
