KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Ascension health group announced Tuesday that it will require all of its employees to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
This is being done due to the spread of variants such as Delta across the country.
“Ascension conducted a thorough moral and ethical analysis as part of the decision-making process,” officials said in a statement. “This decision is rooted in our Mission commitment to leading with quality and safety. As a healthcare provider and as a Catholic ministry, ensuring we have a culture of safety for our associates, patients and communities is foundational to our work.”
Officials say that while tens of thousands of their associates have already been vaccinated, more is needed to help provide a safer environment.
All workers, whether they work with patients or not, will be required to get vaccinated. However, it will not be required for those who have health or religious concerns, of which an exception application can be filed.
The deadline for completing the vaccine series and meeting this requirement will be Nov. 12, 2021.
That news comes after the CDC updated its COVID-19 mask guidelines on Tuesday. More information on that story can be viewed here.
