KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — God’s Kitchen of Michigan will celebrate the life and legacy of its co-founder and vice-chairperson Joan Lafayette, who passed away back in February. The nonprofit hunger-relief charity, serving the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo area, is holding an event at Bronson Park in downtown Kalamazoo tomorrow from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m..
Lafayette served on numerous local and state boards along with helping to launch God’s Kitchen of Michigan. The soup kitchen was incorporated in January 2011 and served its first dinner in October of that year.
Tomorrow’s tribute dinner is free to the public but the group will accept donations for a memorial fund that has been established to honor Lafayette’s legacy.
