BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A body was recovered from the Kalamazoo River in Battle Creek Sunday, and efforts are underway to identify the remains.
Officials with the Michigan DNR and the Calhoun County Sheriff’s office made the discovery at around 5:30 p.m. on the west side of the river near Riverside Dr. and Burnham St. They were patrolling that area after an unrelated river rescue. The body was in an area covered by fallen tree branches.
Investigators say there was no identifying information and they believe it had been in the water for quite some time. Detectives have now begun reviewing local missing persons cases and say the body is being taken to the Calhoun County Medical Examiner’s office for further investigation.
Anyone with information is asked to call Calhoun County Central Dispatch at 269-781-0911 or Silent Observer at 269-9643888.
